This year we are organizing an interdisciplinary summer school to equip early-career modeling scientists with the main concepts and methods of researching and implementing models for climate-sensitive infectious diseases. The topics include:
Keynote Speakers
Joacim is a renowned epidemiologist, modeler, and data scientist conducting interdisciplinary research within the field of climate change and infectious diseases at Universität Heidelberg. He leads the CSIDlab in various cutting edge projects.
Robert is a professor of Numerical Analysis at IWR, Heidelberg University. His work focuses on numerical simulation and analysis of multiscale PDEs and on stochastic uncertainty quantification, as well as their application particularly in energy and environment related areas.
Michael Winckler is the Administrative Director at Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR), Heidelberg University.
Jonas Wallin is a lecturer and Associate Professor at Lund University's. He specializes in spatial statistics, Gaussian processes, optimization, and high dimensional regularization.
Stella Dafka is a climate scientist with a background in physics and meteorology. Her projects aims to understand the current and potential future impacts of climate extreme events on human health, and is involved in the Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change.
Åke is a Professor of Interdisciplinary Mathematics at Umeå University, Sweden. He works on developing and analyzing mathematical models. His research is mainly focused on ecological and evolutionary issues.
Steffen is a PhD candidate at the Interdisciplinary Center of Scientific Computing (IWR), GIScience/HeiGIT lab. His work focusses on harnessing geospatial big data to guide interventions of Aedes-borne arboviral infections in urban settings.
Universitaet Heidelberg
Michael is a postdoctoral researcher at CSID lab working on Machine Learning, data science, and scientific computing projects.
Prasad is a medical doctor and epidemiologist with more than 15 years of experience as a public health specialist. He is a postdoctoral researcher at the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health, where he focuses on climate change adaptation interventions.
Presenters/Tutors
Peter is a postdoctoral researcher at CSIDlab with a PhD in computational science. He is using dynamical models and scientific machine learning methods to simulate and study disease dynamics and eco-evolutionary feedbacks.
Julian is a doctoral student at the CSIDlab with a background in mathematics. He is interested in infectious disease dynamics, ecology, and the impacts of climate change on health. As part of his PhD studies, he develops models to describe the climate-sensitivity of vector-borne diseases. Julian is a contributing scientist to the Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change.
Charlie is a doctoral student at the CSIDlab and has a background in urban planning and geoinformatics. His research interests are urban epidemiology, climate change governance and inequality, sustainability across urban-rural divides, and evolving notions of healthy environments.
Jerome is a postdoctoral researcher with a background in veterinary epidemiology. He holds a PhD in epidemiology from the University of California Davis, a master’s in veterinary Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a Veterinary degree from the University of Liege, Belgium.
Pascale is a postdoctoral researcher in the CSIDLab. She is interested in vector-borne and other infectious diseases, particularly how climate change influences their spatial distribution and interventions to prevent disease spread.
Pratik is a doctoral student in the CSID lab. His broad topic of interest includes disease modeling, mathematical biology, and reinforcement learning.
Munira Omar is a masters student in Data Science working on her thesis under Prof. Joacim Rockloev at the CSIDlab. Her research interests include global health and climate change, driven by a passion for sustainable solutions to global challenges.
